If you are new to the boards and have perhaps posted to a lookups thread, or started your own thread asking for help and then lost it...

You don't have to scroll the boards looking for it... on the left hand side, you may need to scroll down a little, you will see a light yellow box with Top Tips in it. The bottom option should be "my threads" and here will be all the threads you have created, or posted on.

They are usually in the order of the most recent response (which may not be yours)

Hope that helps some newbies who are losing their threads..!!!

Please could ppl keep this nudged up.. I don't know how to "sticky" it?!

Good idea to post this

I think you have to contact the people at GR and ask them to sticky a thread ........ and probably giving them a reason why it should be stickied.

Hi Shirley

a sticky is a thread that is pinned or stuck at the top of the board, and never moves. But it can only be done by the administrators of the site.

Nudge (or n) .... just means that we are all making sure that this thread stays at or near the top of the Records Office board.

ppl . usually means people

Thread is the name given to something like this .... thsi is a thread giving advice to newcomers.

Board is a place where there a number of threads ....... eg, Records Office, Tips and Trying to Find (often shortened to TTF) are all boards.

Anyone can start a thread on a topic .. asking for help in finding an ancestor for example ....... but only GR staff can start a new board.

Tracy/Shirley

A 'nudge' is when you want to keep the topic at the top of the board (so everyone can see it)

All members have to do is...'add reply' and type 'n' or 'nudge'

A sticky is something that only GR can create.
It keeps the thread at the top of the board (again....so everyone can find it)

ppl is (I think!) shorthand for 'people'
