Thanks Diane,
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I am new to this but willing to learn. Any advise is gratefully received and very much appreciated.
Your recent information has been very helpful. I haven't been able to find their marriage anywhere!
Mary McCormack my G Granny was born 19 March 1900 in Portglasgow.
If you have found their married list in 1919 them they might have recorded her name as May and not Mary. Maybe this is why I can not find it.
Many thanks
Sarah

Jacki..
no marriage for Joseph in Scotland...
No death for Joseph in Scotland.. only Victoria of that surname..
I think you need the censuses, not Scotlandspeople..
someone else on Records office board will help you with those, if you dont have access.

Angie.. there is this marriage.. it is probably TROTTER.. because the name is truncated due to limitation on the size of the field..
1919 GRAY BENJAMIN LYON DOBSON CATHERINE TROTT GALASHIELS /SELKIRK 775/00 0027
There is no actual date.. just the year 1919.
I can't search on births with a mother's maiden name.. so will have to leave the births.. sorry

Florence -
This could be Mary's death.. but if she lived to 74, I'm surprised you couldn't find her in Shetland in the censuses... ?

Hello Dianne, Thankyou for your kind offer to help with Scots lookups. My GGGrandfather born about 1820/25 Falkirk Stirlingshire was named William Whitehead. I believe he was married twice but not confirmed as I cant find either of his marriages. I am searching for two marriages for Scotland the first being around 1850s for a William Whitehead to a Matilda Plant. The second marriage to Amelia Plant around 1860s. Amelia may have been married before so married William under another surname. My GGGrandfather served in the Royal Artillery. You can find him on the 1871 Census living in Kent with Amelia but thats about all I can offer.
Regards And Thanks Marion

Hi Diane
Thank you sooooo much for the inforation on James and Euphemia.
If you are still able to search may I impose again please ....
I have a Robert Trotter Dobson who married Mary Linton Graham on 20th April 1894 in Howick, Northumberland [date from IGI]
They had 3 children - Mary c1896, Catherine Trotter Dobson c1898 and John c1900 all born in Scotland [according to the 1901 census]
Catherine gave birth to George Henry Dobson on 18 Jan 1917, Heriot Midlothian - birth cert does not show the name of the father - George was baptised at Heriot Church 14 Feb 1917 [this is information I have been given - I have not seen any certs]
Catherine had 7 further children and i have assumed they were all born after George - all I have is their first name - Richard, James, Margaret, Kathleen, May, Arthur and Thomas [in no particular order]
I don't know if Catherine married.
Is there any possibility you may be able to look for a possible marriage for Catherine and births of her other children.
It's a tall order I know - any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Angie

Yep.....it doesn't get any easier does it?
Familysearch has the marriage around 1830 in Strichen, Aberdeen. Both boys are Geddes but mum still Scott........ Hhmmmm.... Perhaps i will try and find out if Alexander died between 1833 - 1841.

Julie - I can't find that birth on Scotlandspeople, nor a marriage for Alexander and Margaret...
I am very inexperienced in Scots records, so I don't know what the implication is for that, but I notice the familysearch records for the birth, and the marriage are submitted, and I know these are far less reliable than the original files that are entered..
I think its time I deferred to someone with greater knowledge!

Julie - maybe James is Alexander's son by a first wife? or illegitimate... If Margaret is still Scott after the boys are born (eg on the 1841 census) maybe she and Alexander were not married....
the plot thickens!
