Looking for a Mary Elizabeth McNamara.
Born abt 1891 in Burrawang, NSW, Australia.
Parents Thomas Francis McNamara & Theresa Bellamy.
1st marriage to ? Spark and was widowed.
2nd Marriage to Charles Frederick Raue.
She lived in Rozelle NSW at time of marriage.
They married St Johns Anglican Church, Balmain, NSW on 18 June 1921.
Charles died in 1949 but do not know what happen to Mary she wasn’t around prior Charles death.

but there is sure no sign of the first. Might that have been a _3rd_ marriage??

There were 11 marriages of male Spark-s in NSW 1905-1920, two to Marys, Padden and Cornish. No McNamara marriage to either name.

Given the timing ... is it possible that she went by Spark because she had lost a fiancé / father of a child in WWI? I looked at CWGC, there are three Spark-s in Australian war deaths. If they weren't married, the record would not show a wife's name.

Thanks Bruce, I've got the Charles & Mary's marriage certificate. This lady is a bit of a mystery, I've can't find her birth on BDM.

I added the Charles and Mary marriage because you knew when it was, but nobody else did -- dates can be significant, e.g. in this case the possibility that Mary was a war widow with a child who wasn't actually married. It's a theory!

It says she was a widow when she married Raue?

She seems to have had siblings

Not sure if Mary had any children. Charles in my ggrandfather and no one in my family whose alive knew about Mary. She is one of those mysteries that has stump me for a few years and a few more it looks like.

Could Mary E have been adopted? Burrawang is towards the coast, quite a long way from inland Barmedman/Boorowa/Young/Temora.

There was a Thomas Joseph who married a Theresa Martha in 1893 in NSW and Dorothy listed above was their daughter. They also has Thos George 1894 and Valerie E 1897.

Are you sure the 1949 Chas is the son and not the father? Could be Mary married a younger man 2nd time round.

His death notice may list any children or additional info re Mary/Anne.

PS The electroal roll son Ancestry show an Ann Elizabeth RAUE living in same district as Chas Fredk RAUE (Dalley NSW) in 1930. Then this death:

or another marriage for the CF Raue who married McNamara?? (oh oops, you said that Cherilyn!) Which would suggest either death or divorce before 1946, if so.

McNamara's first marriage could have quite simply been in another state.


With all those siblings for Mary Elizabeth McNamara, and all their marriages and children and deaths to be hunted up, surely some living family member might be found!

Ah Ann was the wife of Edward Hugo, who died in 1914 (ie she was Chas Fredk snr's mother)

Chas Fredk snr was born in Balmain in 1877 (reg as RAWE). This is the one that died in 1949. This must be his marriage to Margaret (shown as Chas F jnr's mother):

The Charles Frederick Raue who died 1969 (Anne Rigg his wife) was the son of Charles Frederick Raue who died 1949 from his 1st marriage to a Margaret Scullen. Anne Raue nee Ponts was is mother, Hugo Edward Raue father.

Ah I see, Margaret died in 1919 (reg as RAVE) in Balmain, dau of John & Margaret.

I have checked Vic & Qlds but no SPARK/SPARKS/SPARKE marriage found.

Mary Johanna Elizabeth MCNAMARA b2:5 Jul 1888 died14 Nov 1982 daughter of Thomas and Theresa

? married to James padden who was her (Mary) brother Thomas's wife margaret 's brother he died oin 1905

13 Oct 1908 Married William Carmichael Spark in Broken hill NSW had 3 children Evelyn Violet, William and James they split just prior to JAmes birth in 1913.
Ther e may also be another partner prior to charles but i am yet to confirm with evidence.
I also have her married to charles Raue however no divorce records and william still alive and living in Victoria Australia,
She also had a partner Harry Yelland some time prior to 1928 as she was still with him when her grandson John Ronald Sparkes was born in 1928 for quite some years Jogn thought they were his parents.

I hsvre birth and death certificates as well as baptism and marriage certificate for William all these are on NsW birth deaths and marriages
