Hi Thanks for info. Based on this I have now got the DOB and have sent off for cert. The only other Info I need if anyone can help is the POW info but got nowhere at pres. This could have been fantasy really dont know. Thank you all for the info provided I am now one step closer to solving the mystery but need to find the last bits of the Jig Saw If I suddenly find am a Millionaire I will let u know.

HI flick. Thanks for your donation. I have ordered the Birth Certificate but dont hold out much hope with the name and location being what it is. I have also ordered the copy will but am dubious as to whether it has been lodged or acted upon. There appears to be an air of secrecy but i suppose that living relatives in their 90s may not act as rationally as those not.

As there is a will once you find it again you need to contact the executor of the will who will sort out your inheritance.

As your uncle did not die intestate you will not claim this from the government. Any of the heir hunters who contacted you should have told you this.

SRS. Thanks for various comments. It is nice that someone at least in part supports me. I have no idea who Janey thinks she is but appear to be trying to be a Barrack Room Lawyer.If you read my postings you will see that John Macken is My Uncle unless Definitions have changed. He was married to my Mothers Sister. I have an interest in completing this section of my tree. Also I was always told and indeed saw a Will some 40 years ago when he expressly left me a small sum of money so yes I am an Heir Hunter in that respect. Since posting this I have had 3 Professional Heir Hunters contact me offering their services for quite large sums of money so it appears they are using this site themselves. I do not see how one can stop them as the sort of fees they were talking about would enable them to join and re join as often as required or as often as they were blocked. I am afraid that this is a sign of the times and with the freedom of information act i feel it will probably get worse.

As regards my other searches the reason for those is my business but I can assure you that they are nothing to do with Paternity, Ex Partners, or any sinister reasons. I trust this will bring an end to the tirade from Janey . Anyone wishing to look at my tree is more than welcome

I wish you will stop accusing you of misrepresenting you JC. I don't intentionally twist anything that you say. I also didn't say that you said anyone had to explain etc etc......... That was just my own language and my own explanation. His explanation may have been intricate and personal from the start.

I'm far more careless with words than you are JC so this level of scrutiny is rather unfair when I post late at night and this is too early to explain especially with a bad headache. (in fact I'm far too careless all through the day lol - you'll have your work cut out ;))

I personally don't like a lot of these requests looking for current family/friends, personally I've always it sat uneasy on a genealogy website although I do see the link.

The board I used to use was purely genealogy, which I preferred but strangely enough I found relatives through that site as we were both researching the same family (albeit we both made the same mistake lol) I think people can be found through their family trees or there should be a dedicated board for searching for living individuals with stricter guidelines for people posting and researching. Perhaps I should have put that on the survey.

And of course the fact is that *he* splattered private details of *her* life on the board and indeed the worldwide web, with no objections from anyone suggesting he shouldn't need to explain himself.

It is up to any person what they want to disclose. But for others to go merrily assisting in searches that are questionable on their face for which no reason is given is then just not appropriate.

I have no more idea than you what was or was not explained privately, but I am absolutely positive that some of the people assisting in the search had received NO explanation, as is perfectly obvious from the first few posts in the thread. I also don't know why someone would post that she was sending information about a birth to the person sought, and the current location of the person, if she were already in private communication. But hey, that's just me.

Yup, given the way personal information is totally unprotected in the UK, someone with knowledge might do these things for themself. That is no reason for strangers to assist in a possible privacy violation willy-nilly. People can commit murder for themselves, too. We still don't hand them firearms when they want to.

That's where we differ JC, I didn't think he behaved badly on the previous thread. I think it's hard for people to know other's expectations, I think a lot the helpers on this site have very high expectations compared to some sites and he has fallen foul of it.

However, I do hope that he has explained himself satisfactorily to those who have offered to do a look up. Whether that actually has been done and whether info has already passed into his hands is debatable, I have my own suspicions like you but I cannot say for certain. Is it up to us to demand what happened in their conversations (if you can call it that)?

Then comes the moral issue of whether he or indeed anyone needs to explain himself when this info is freely available (although maybe not always free) on the net anyway. If he had the knowledge, he could do it himself so what's the harm? I've my own views on this subject , I personally wouldn't like anyone harmed from info that I've provided but there's this nagging logic which gets me to play devil's advocate ;)

Although he may not be a heir hunter in finding relatives of unrelated deceased he still expects to profit financially from volunteer researchers. However unless he is related through grandparents then he his wasting his time and any claim would have to show no other living relatives or all living relatives would have an equal share. However any children would mean only they would be entitled to claim

I think the interpretation may indeed be overbroad, but the fact is, as Neville stated, the purpose of his search is to find an inheritance for himself, not to find family or ancestors.

My main complaint is Neville's overall approach to the board.

This thread is at least a duplicate of one where he had already behaved badly.

And I'm still appalled at the completely unexplained search for a woman last known to be single with a child, whose personal life he splattered around the board yesterday, and was then abetted in his search for her by people who I am absolutely certain had no idea why he wanted to find her.

Tooty Fruity, have you any evidence that he is an heir hunter? I know the term seems to have been bandied about quite a bit.

Neville's assertion however, is that he is a relative with a possible hope of inheritance, not quite the interpretation of heir hunter that most people have these days ie a for profit organisation like on TV.

Do you or anyone else have any evidence to contradict this? If so, it would be interesting to hear.

As an heir hunter you are suppose to do the work yourself and not profit from the work of volunteers. You should subscribe to the sites yourself.

Anyone helping heir hunters should charge a fee. This can easily be set up using paypal and pm's

please think seriously as to whether or not you are happy helping a heir hunter for free when they can make huge profits

No, Neville, you're not an heir hunter............you're someone hoping to get some money for yourself.

If you want to find if he left a Will.....get in touch with the probate service, and send them the appropriate payment to do a search.

For anyone else.......Neville has the man's marriage and death certs, so don't waste time looking for them.

If the only interest is a possible inheritance, the birth cert will be irrelevant

Have no idea what you are on about if you look at my tree you will see my connections and I am using whatever sources available ex neighbours, friends etc to fill in the gaps. I lost track of my Uncle after a family dispute 30 yrs ago. Trying to tie up loose ends before it is too late.
