3 of the Dunn Mckenna births (1926 28 and 33) are father and 2 siblings.
His older sister and brother, parents are Joseph Mckenna and Mary Dunn.
Mt fatherwas always told his Mckeena family wwas very large and mostly in Liverpool, so I am guessing you just found a whole bunch of them.
I have applied for marriage cert and hope his fathers name is on it, at the least it will have his age so I can work backwards.
I hope to try and get a picture of him.

beat me to it.

Shall I find them on 1911?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 23 Oct 2009 22:22

There are also McKenna-Dunn births in Liverpool 1912 and 1915, so I suspect:

Marriages Mar 1905
> Dunn Maria Liverpool 8b 158
> McKENNA Michael Liverpool 8b 158
Padget Harry Liverpool 8b 158
Shalliker Jane Liverpool 8b 158

and a rather enormous family over 20 years.

Sisters marrying brothers maybe?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 23 Oct 2009 22:15

Actually, Viv, there are 5 McKenna-Dunn births in Liverpool dist 1917-1926; I figured they all belonged together to another couple.

Ancestry --

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8782

births 1915-2005

Just search for the surname of the child, with the mother's surname (add a date range if you're dealing with Smith and Jones).

I swear by Ancestry, much as I despise it. ;)

Janey,
How did you find all 3 children to Dunn in West Derby so fast, what site do you use?
I always have to go through each set of 4-7 surname matches for each year. Just wondered if there is a site that finds or Makes matches faster??

Thomas

Thomas Report 23 Oct 2009 21:17

I see, yes I made a mistake, His brother was called Joseph, but both say their middle names were John yet neither is registered as that.
Joseph's death record even shows as Joseph John Mckenna!
Confusing! and to make matters worse as Mary Dunn lost her husband so young she re married a Thomas, they had twins and named them Thomas and Mary! same as them! Seriously its confusing

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 23 Oct 2009 21:11

Just that at the beginning you said:

"He had 2 sons, John and Vincent"

but that should be Joseph and Vincent?

It was just looking like the McKenna men were whimsical about their names. ;)

Thomas

Thomas Report 23 Oct 2009 21:01

Joseph was his older brother and Margaret was his sister, Joseph was always called Jo, But I am told his middle name was John
My Dad always called himself, Vincent John, every thing he had driving licence ect had this on, but his birth cert does not have John on!?

Does that awnser your query, I am not sure what you mean??

Thomas

Thomas Report 23 Oct 2009 20:56

I have ordered it now, only have to wait 15 days! lol oh and then the strike! hehe

Viv, Thank you so much will update here when I get further information.
It will mean so much to me Dad if I can find something

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 23 Oct 2009 20:53

Interesting about the names, Thomas - this is your dad:

Vincent McKenna Oct Nov Dec 1933 W Derby

but the other two births in W Derby with mother Dunn are:

Joseph McKenna Apr May Jun 1926 W Derby
Margaret McKenna Jan Feb Mar 1928 W Derby

-- No John. Was Joseph called John? It may indeed have been a family tradition. ;)

Thomas - hold off a bit until you get the marriage certificate. It will give you his age and father's name and then you'll have something to check other records against.

Thomas

Thomas Report 23 Oct 2009 20:42

Yes I did it wrong, try again!

Viv, see I cannot confirm if he had another name so it could well of been him, what information does it give on there for him?
again, thank you!

Janey,
I know there was a article in a Liverpool newspaper as My Dad was very upset when after years of carrying it around in his wallet, he lost it!
It said something like "Liverpool man dies at sea". I have been in touch with Liverpool Libary and will pop up to look as they said they have all papers from then, but warn me it will be a long search without the date
