Long Lost Family – Series 2 Episode 3

Published on 27 Apr 2012 16:04 : long lost family tv : 2 comments : 6646 views

Did you miss episode 3 of Long Lost Family, or need a refresh? It was another great watch, so here's a quick recap. In last night's episode Peter Arundel and Maureen Saville were both searching for their birth mothers.

Peter Arundel was given up for adoption when he was just 4 weeks old. Over the last 20 years he has been searching for his birth mother Elsie. Long Lost Family tracks her down alive and well and living in Lincolnshire. She is delighted to hear the news that Peter has been looking for her. It was a heart breaking story to hear that Peter's father left when he heard of the pregnancy, and to complete surprise flew back to America to his wife and two kids.

With a strict upbringing and at only 17 years old, Elsie's only option was to stay at the ‘naughty girl's home' until she gave birth to her baby. This is where she gave Peter away.

We also saw the story of Liverpool grandmother reunited with her long lost family.

Maureen spent years trying to track down her mother who left her as a toddler. Little did she know the surprises she'd find along the way.

After Long Lost Family finally piece together clues found in marriage records, it was really sad to hear that Maureen's mum had died before she got to meet her. The team also discover that her mother had two further children. Maureen is reunited with her step brother and sister, who also shared the same hurt and pain from not having their birth mother in their lives.

The good news is Maureen finally puts closure on years of wondering and has her brother and sister in her life to fill the empty gap.

The two reunions were very emotional and tears flowed throughout.

If you missed this week's show, you can watch it here.

Don't forget to catch Episode 4 on ITV1 Thursday 3rd May at 9pm

I found Maureen's story the most emotional yet, and cried and cried. I think it was because of the big shift in her believing that her siblings had lived with her mum,(Did she never mention me, then?) and feeling more rejected and alone, to finding out that they too had been abandoned and therefore she had someone beside her who could share how she felt. I do hope the three have helped heal each other's pain. Meeting her siblings will surely more than make up for not meeting her mum. By all accounts, it had not worked out well when the brother found her. I hope Maureen is enjoying her new family x
