Find My Past: D Day ā 10th November 2011
The latest episode of the Find My Past TV Show featured the D-Day invasion. The show uncovered British troops on their way to Normandy to take part in the D-Day landings.
The episode followed three people, Robin Clarke, Kerry Wood and Frances O'Reilly and discovered the key roles their relatives played in the D-Day landings in Normandy in June 1944. They shared a surprising link as they learnt more about their ancestors and how they were all involved in D-Day.
D-Day was one of the biggest battles in history. In total it is said that over 75,215 British and Canadian troops and 57,500 US troops were landed by sea. Another 23,400 were landed by air. It was going to overthrow Nazi Germany and its leader Adolf Hitler. The three were surprised to hear that their family members took part in flying the first 3 glider planes.
After searching through key records, Robin, Kerry and Francis soon learn the significant roles their relatives played in the battle. It came as a surprise that most led in their field and were valued members of the troop. It was an amazing and emotional story of battle and bravery.
Thousands of men lost their lives and now all we can do is to keep the history alive, as quoted on the show! Let us remember the thousands of men that fought in the battle and lost their lives. We will never forget the exceptional bravery of these men!
If you missed the show, Iād say definitely catch up when you can. It was a real eye opener into the lives of British military heroes.
