Team - could you please ask Sheena who he married in 1877 and what his occupation was? We can then go to later census hopefully for more info on birthplace and then work back.
Do try to collect as much relevant info as possible! :-)

McCulloch/Holmes families in Ireland I am searching for information about my g grandfather David Holmes McCulloch born about 1858 in Ireland (area unknown) His parents were Agnes or Mary Holmes or Holms born about 1835 and William McCulloch, coal pit labourer, born about 1830s. I don't know if his parents were born/continued to live in Ireland. My g grandfather married Jessie Young in Scotland in 1877 and had 5 children who all remained in Scotland.

If you are able to, it may be worth checking out the Poor Relief records for Glasgow. These are indexed and held in The Mitchell Library. It is possible that David's wife may have claimed relief around the time of David's death.
The Glasgow Poor Relief records can be very useful in tracing the area of Ireland that our ancestors came from. I have found some for my own family that even give a street address.

Thank you again to everyone who has replied to my search request at WDYTYA exhibition. I did follow up the Irish leads mentioned, but sadly the records either had different parents or dates and did not match the family I am searching for. However, if anyone ever comes across David McCulloch and his family via other genealogy connections in the future, please do contact me again via GenesReunited. Kind regards Sheena

Hi Gins I am so sorry that I have not replied to you. I had no idea you'd sent me another message and have only just come across your message today. The information I put out was: McCulloch/Holmes families in Ireland I am searching for information about my g grandfather David Holmes McCulloch born about 1858 in Ireland (area unknown) His parents were Agnes or Mary Holmes or Holms born about 1835 (??) and William McCulloch, coal pit labourer, born about 1830s (??). I don't know if his parents were born/continued to live in Ireland. My g grandfather married Jessie Young in Scotland in 1877 and had 5 children who all remained in Scotland.
Since the WDYTYA Exhibition I have found out there is a David McCullagh born 1851 in Armagh on record with parents of the same name, but my David repeats his dob as 1858 (a 7-year difference) on every document I have. I don't know if perhaps it is the right family and perhaps the first David died between 1851 and 1858 and the parents named a new son born in 1858 with the same name???!! Also on the Armagh record there is no occupation for the father - but for some reason there are 2 addresses given-one for each parent? (I have no idea what that means) So I'm no further forward really and if there is any way you can help me, then that would be great. I look forward to hearing from you Regards Sheena
