Posts have a Preview and Submit button.

What I suggest is a Draft button which can save a draft post before final posting instead of a Preview that can't be saved.

Why not post on this thread

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/suggestions/thread/1308919

You could always type a reply in Word or something similar before adding a post.

Of what benefit would it be?

CupCakes

CupCakes Report 1 Jul 2013 11:29

Typing in Word is wasted energy and time.
Would help some people like me who are not so nimbled fingered anymore and hopeless at grammar & spelling.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 1 Jul 2013 11:33

Why is typing in Word any more wasteful of energy and time than typing in a message box on GR?

And on Word, you have the option to employ the spelling/grammar tool!

And, in any case, what is the EDIT function for, if not to give you the chance to amend any errors?

CupCakes

CupCakes Report 1 Jul 2013 11:58

Oh Reggie - so I forgot the last line - to edit any errors.
I don't spell check small posts like this - would be so complicated. So much easier to Google and search the words then ctrl C the correct spelling :-)

Nothing complicated or time consuming about using spell checker,Even easier to use auto correct when typing

Can you explain what you perceive to be the difference between 'preview' and 'draft'

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 6 Jul 2013 20:49

It isn't a daft suggestion at all - very sensible. Draft will allow you to save part completed messages and come back to them to add to / edit or what ever you might before committing it.

My browser is set to spell check what I type in anyway so this sint an issue. Oops! sint needs to be changed, it tells me.

The answer to the last poster's question is in the OP.

Suggestions Board Roundup

Community Advisor Report 5 Jul 2013 14:59

5th July 2013 – A roundup of the latest suggestions from the Suggestions Board:

• Posts should have a draft button which can save a draft post as well as a preview and submit button
- As the post can be previewed before it is submitted we don’t think having a draft option is necessary. However if this is something that members are really keen to see implemented, we will look into adding this feature.

I agree LadyKira

AmazingGrace08 Report 15 Jul 2013 04:24

For long posts I find it easier in Word then copy and paste (I usually spell check etc there ) for short ones I am not sure a draft would be needed ...it is just the same if you type it all in Word, check facts or find a record, add that and then you can post straight over

Just my opinion for what it's worth

LadyKira

LadyKira Report 15 Jul 2013 21:14

I would often do that too Grace
. It is much easier to see as well.
I have a dislike of the tiny posting box.
Easier to view in a larger font too.

Type in word and spell check you have to be kidding - what a complete waste of time.
Boards supposed to be just fun not the be all and end all of life..................... <3

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 16 Jul 2013 10:55

The boards are a major part of GR for helping people with their research,

Its OK to bring humour into a reply but people take their research very seriously so on the Genealogy Chat, Find Ancestors and Find Living Relatives boards should in the main be confined to serious posts and replies

What is the point of asking for a draft button when spell checking is such a waste of time?

DazedConfused

DazedConfused Report 16 Jul 2013 12:17

Right I have been thinking long and hard about this and I have come to the conclusion that a 'draft' page would be ideal

Would perhaps be ideal for those posts which are done in haste (repented at their leisure)

So you can type your OP or reply save to draft then go away, calm down, come back and either delete or post.

May even stop all the ridiculous RR'ing which happens, especially at the weekends...
