Is it possible for Genes Reunited to develop a more robust and definative search engine. On another genealogy site where I have just completed a trial period, they have the option to add parents/spouse and sibling names. I found this to be excellent and i made significant strides forward by up to three generations at a time on some lines. Is Genes Reunited developing the search function further? :-)

Which is why so many of us on here use other sites as well, or entirely.

On only research on A***** and F****

When searching for a marriage record it would be useful to be able to add a spouces name ;-)

You can on FreeBMD after about 1911 or 12 and that is a standard search on all genealogy websites.

So why not just use freebmd? Why pay for a search which is free :-S

I'm sure you know by now that the GRO didn't add spouse info to the index until after 1911, and GR does NOT transcribe ANY records.

As I think you have been advised before, there are some sites for individual counties where the pairings in a marriage are identified.

To access them, go to ukbmd........FREE

But, in all honesty, I can't imagine why anyone would use GR for BMD research...........

Welcome to the Community Boards Stefanie.

If you want to know what GR are developing, it would be best to contact them directly. Go to Help at the top of the screen.

As Stefanie is a new poster, I will send a friendly message as to how to return to her thread. :-)

As Stephanie has been researching since 2007 I would have thought that she would have known about the dates when:

1: Mothers maiden name was added to Birth Records

2: Spouses were listed together

3: That FreeBMD and UKBMD exist.

:-S :-D

My membership says 2007 but I never touched this site from then until 2010...my Ancestry membership says 2004? I didn't have a computer until 2006 must have joined when I stayed with my parents for a few months :-D

Just to add my dad joined this site in 2007 and he only has himself in his tree and he has never researched anything....should he decide one day to subscribe he would be new to genealogy not someone who has been researching more than 6 years
