There IS a separate board..........it's called GENERAL CHAT, and although I never use it, I can see that it fulfills a need for those who do post on it

It comes under the heading 'live and let live'...........try it!

These "goings-on", as you so rudely and crudely put it, ARE on a separate Board from all genealogical postings. They are on Chat Board


Unfortunately, they will show up if they contain a similar name to the one you are looking for.


It is a problem with many other sites as well .........

............... many people use the Chat Board and those chats as their lifeline to the outside world.

They are the housebound, the paralyzed, the "temporarily" sick (ie, waiting for an operation, or recovering form a major illness), the insomniacs, etc

They all joined GR, often as far back as 2002/3 when the site began , most of them have worked for many years on their tree, and in doing so, have met a community of like-minded people. Now they "chat" on a a Board set aside for the use of people who want to do that.

Note that they are ALL also paying members of GR.


Who are you to say that the contents of that Board are "inane and brainless" or that it is neither "wanted nor desired"???


I think you owe a huge apology to a very large group of people that you have insulted .......... hopefully out of ignorance of the function of that Board.

There used to be Surname boards, but these were done away with sometime ago.

If you only use the ' Quick Search' you'll get results from across all Boards.

Although it's time consuming, you could use the Advance search facility and select each board in turn, focussing on Genealogy Chat, Find Ancestors and possibly Find Living Relatives

Wouldn't it be great if one could bring up a page that is soley concerned with the search, help with,info etc of a family name that is being researched and not have it filled with absolute garbage and irrelevant gibberish that has nothing to do with information wanted.Some items come across is "same sex marriage"????
