Suggestions

The Genes Team,

Suggestion boards or boxes can solicit all sorts of ideas, some useful, others not so. One thing that I feel is important is that receipt of a suggestion should at least be acknowledged by those who asked for it.

It is now 14 days since the Genes Team set up the 3 separate posts calling for suggestions under the headings GENERAL, TREE and RECORDS. I know that you stated that you would read every post but could not guarantee a reply to each and every post. I accept that but as I write this there have been almost 120 suggestions made but there is no indication that any of them have been read let alone considered for attention or dismissed as impractical. Such lack of acknowledgement can be dispiriting to those making the suggestions.

Might I suggest that each time a batch of posts have been read by the Genes Team that a simple post be added to the thread by the team to acknowledge the fact. Something along the lines of, "All previous posts have been read by the Genes Team and are now being considered." Such a post would at least convey to those who had made a suggestion that it had at least been read rather than ignored.

Maybe on the suggestion board there should be a little box that the Genes Team can tick if only to indicate that they have been read.

Otherwise any suggestions, good or bad, are posted but we never know

a: If they have been read

or

b: Will be looked at for use in any future updates

As most people who post to the suggestion boards often feel they are being ignored.

I've just posted on another thread on this Board (GlitterBaby's) that it is wrong for the 3 threads to have seemingly been ignored for 2 whole weeks.


There was information earlier this week that Estelle was out of her office until September 6

and this weekend is a Family History Fair at Newcastle



does this mean that there is no-one except Estelle with the authority to read or post on the Boards??


and does it mean that they have all been spending at least this week ignoring current members while getting ready to attract new members?

"I hope you had a good break - you probably will need another one when you have read the Suggestions Board that was opened before you went away!

"Can I suggest that you or one of your colleagues reads it pdq and puts a message up there to indicate that it has been read? There is considerable dissent and frustration amongst members and we need to know that people are reading and taking account of what we have been asked to contribute to....

I have noted that Estelle has made a post on each of the Suggestions threads this morning stating that she will spend some time this week taking a good look at all the suggestions made.

It is a start indeed.

My 64 year old friend who lived near Snowdon (he is called Jonesey coincidentally) has been up and down Snowdon 84 times since 11 Sept (twice on a couple of days in Sept).

Lot of activity leading walking grooups up 3500 ft of Snowdon. Have we had similar activity/progress with suggestions on Genes since 11 Sept?
