On the tree page, under the name of your tree, are the written words 'View Other trees'.
That opens in the middle of the scree, as is known as a Tree Dashboard.
Arranged alphabetically by first name of the owner, there are 20 names per page. You'll probably have to use the slide bar to view each name on a page. The numbes of other pages are towards the bottom.
As for finding someone in your tree or someone elses, you may find it easier to use the List function from the link on the tree page. The Profile screen can be accessed on the list if you prefer to use that to view the details. Alternatively, once you have found them, you can choose to view them in the tree as either Immediate family, Full, Ancestors or Descendents

I think there must have been some changes made to the trees since I last did any searching: 1. previously I found that names on the trees were severely truncated and if I didn't somehow psychically know the short form used I couldn't match up with the person I wanted i.e. Frederick c/b Fred/Fre/Fr; Charles c/b Charl/Char/Cha/Ch; Elizabeth c/b Eliz/Eliza/Eli; Euphemia c/b Eu/Eup/Euph/Euphem all it seemed, depending on the length of the surname with 1-3or4 periods between the names. This seems to have been changed as I found tonight when searching that the tree boxes show the full forename as they used to do. 2. When I was clicking trees tonight I found that when I moved, either forward or backward in time, as I moved from gen-gen I lost the info that had come up the first time I clicked on the person in another generation and I had to start again to find which sibling had a family etc. The only way to keep this info on screen seems to be to bring up the whole tree, not always needed. 3. In fact I would never bother to bring up my own entire tree as it is so large that even with a brand new ultra fast computer it takes an inordinate amount of time to download and much of the time the request times out before it's done. 4. A question: where do I find the list of trees I have access to along with the # of people on each of those trees? That was very handy and time-saving. Simone

Ian, I had the problem of first letter or digit missing in the Notes section - GR helped me there (after some insistance) and it is just a compatibility problem; the record and search matches work too now. So try changing your compatibility now and see. With everything that has been going on recently, my 1st reaction now when I can't get something to work is switch compatibility over (i.e. to ON or OFF) and sometimes it works!! Catherine

Just noticed the first digit on each line of anything I have written in the notes section is missing.
Also the record and tree matches will not work.

Still hoping GR will sort this out.

When you export your tree from here as a gedcom, it will copy and transfer life events recorded in the appropriate boxes eg birth, baptisms, marriages, death and burials. Notes, attached records or photos would not necessarily be copied.
Do not fear - unless you 'Delete' your tree on GR, it will remain on the site so that you can copy and paste details from the notes field. Whilst the site is running, you will have access to it, even if you no longer subscribe.
Where to put your downloaded tree? Many of us would recommend using an offline tree held on our home computers as a 'Master Version', making sure that it is regularly backed-up onto an external harddrive or other device - flash drive/memory stick, or CD.
There are a number of free versions. A summary of some and download links can be found here.
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-genealogy-family-tree-software.htm
There are also commercial programmes, either as downloads, or as purchased discs to load yourself.
Which internet site to choose? There are a number of online FH sites you could upload to. It is probably best to do an internet search, take out the relevant free trials if applicable and experiment until you find one you are comfortable with.

Ian You can download a free program from:-
https://familysearch.org/products
It is just one of many but it will give you an idea of what transfers and what does not. This is the notes that transfered for one of mine:-
1911 TOSTEVIN NICHOLAS L M 1845 66 Jersey Jersey
D/Y/A/91/23 Item description Testament of Nicholas Lamswood Tostevin, Avenue House, Parade Road, St Helier. Dated 15 April 1930. Desires to be buried in Almorah Cemetery ===================================== Testament of Matilda Jane Mourant, 2 Diadem Villas, Parade Road, St Helier, widow of Nicholas Lambswood Tostevin. Dated 29 January 1943. Bequeaths to the Sunday School Department of the Aquila Road Church Ð10. ----------------------------------------------------------- 1/1/1916 at St Helier Town Church
Nicholas Lambswood Tostevin, age 70, Widower, occupation Builder, born and living in St Helier. Father Peter Tostevin, Builder to Matilda Jane Mourant,, age 41, spinster, occupation Waitress, living in St Helier, born in Grouville. Father Buesnel Mourant, Farmer
The witnesses were C.S. Bisson and H.M. Hutchings.
There is a problem with Matilda not showing properly in Genes tree because she is younger than his children.

I am starting to think that this is the end of GR, can I ask a question? I am going to anyway,
On GR in the Extras note box I have entered a lot of information about each individual person for example there addresses throughout the census return years.
When exporting a Gedcom does this info go with it? and which is the best site to export to?
I am seriously concerned that I am going to lose a lot of hard work.
Thanks

Hear hear, Roy. We are always crossing swords and you have been very patient throughout this last month. And yoiur advice has clearly been sought by many over a much longer period.
But I think the position we have all been put in is totally unfair. You must be spending hours helping and replying. I am spending hours on Community for the first time, and - much as I enjoy it - it is not really the reason I joined Genes.
Happily plodding along building my tree and corresponding with possible matches, I am now reduced to celebrating RR awards. You will know there is an elite club for those who have been referred. I knew nothing of that world, but now I am a member of the elite club myself :-)

Ian, me too, I would prefer to be helping with genealogy advice and look ups but these errors, bugs, programming errors, lack of understanding by GR have taken over the boards,
I only keep my membership going to help others because i don't need GR in order to do my tree, my main tree is on my PC and i only keep my direct line on GR anyway, I did remove my tree before the changes just in case but have since uploaded a Gedcom and added to it over the last couple of weeks
The sooner the tree works for all members in a format thats easy to use and understand the better,
Roy

Roy, I understand why you are helping people out but as Roger says you should not have to.
I have been a GR member for about six years and in that time have never spent more than an hour looking at these message boards, but now because of this mess I spend more time on here than doing what a really want to do which is view and add people to my tree.
For some reason at the moment my tree shows I have a father I have never heard of born in 1827. Call that progress?
Roy, judging from your posts on here recently you are someone who is happy to help people, but this site is about ancestry research not an IT forum, I hope sooner rather than later we can all get back to our original purpose.

Well I think what Roy and co is good, but in reality it is not of they making.
It is Genes rReunited IT blokes making.
And three weeks ago Genes could have avoided all this trouble if those IT blokes and Genes owners had stated SORRY we have made a mistake the new site is a shambles we will go back to the old site and start afresh .
BUT no they expect us to work through it and learn how to use a site which was very easy to use once with the mess it is now.
So come on Genes admit it has not gone how you expected it to and remember we are your customers who will not come back unless you do something about it and quickly.; and give us what we want now - the old site back.
I wish we could get shares in Bright Solid because if I had shares I would give your IT blokes a big kick up the backside to get something done about this site now.

I wonder if Yonks means the old surname board PP???
So many of the complaints seem to be coming from folk who are new to the community boards - they post and don't return. Some also seem to think that their message is being seen by the staff of GR too..... :-S

Totally agree with Cynthia. And she has also been very patient and helpful too.
Cannot believe how well you have handled all these problems, Roy. Full of admiration for you. It must be like rowing a leaking boat from Llandudno to IOM.
You should be able to relax a bit more soon - either Genes will ditch the deLorean, or they will continue to lose members. Whichever way they go, there should be less queries.
I would prefer our Cortina Mk 2 back pro tem and yes, I would put you both in charge (also pro tem as I doubt you both want highly paid full time jobs in East London) and perhaps then we could eventually have our gleaming Range Rover one day soon :-D :-D

PP, I think you've done a great job in helping those who are stuck.
Some of the problems you've helped people with are issues which have been caused through user error and have simple solutions.
Not all of the difficulties people have experienced have been caused by the changeover.
Well done and thank you.

Ian, I agree 100% with that
But Ive tried to answer in a way that most users would IMO understand
Eg; what the symptoms are then possible reason, then remedy
but open to offers if you have a better method?
