Suggestions

There appears to be an assumption that 'Free Members' are rr'ing posts, hence the suggestion to have that privilege removed from them.

Has any one got any proof of this?

I stand very firmly behind the RR instant removal being limited for use by paying members only....and for non payers to go down the old email route.

I'm sure with the number of caring members on all boards on this site, we are more than equipped to be able to identify a privacy lapse and RR it ourselves so it is removed instantly if needs be.

I'd like to say I am strongly in favour of removing the ability for free members to RR any posts, though they should be able to go down the email route if need be.

I notice some concerns from some members that this would prevent posts containing personal details from being RR'd if necessary, such as some on the help boards. Why can't it? We as paying members surely have the brains to see a breach of T&C's and do it ourselves? It doesn't have to be left to the owner of those details. If it's a breach, its a breach, so RR it.

But by not allowing free members to RR posts removes or at least very much reduces the chances of abuse of the system such as we've seen over the last few weeks in particular.

For some reason it has only just now struck me that my on line monica of Rollo the Red could I suppose get confused with RRed .... and that y.t. may be the phantom referrer.

Well, I have been hit by this quite often in the last month and would not RR anybody just because I had a different point of view.

I feel that when a referral is made for legit reasons e.g. racism then it is fair for the referrer to remain anonymous. In all other circumstances the id of the referrer and the reason should be made public. If somebody wants to behave like a cluck then they should not expect to be protected by anonymity.

Just because a post has been referred does not mean that it should instantly disappear - the daily press leave posts up for a bit no doubt waiting for some more "dislikes".

As has now been said 1001 times the current set up is unworkable.

I have my own ideas but I am fairly sure the phantom is not any of the regular posters here. Chat is of course on another planet beyond my ken.

report something offensive yes, but what has been happening lately has to be stopped.

I know non paying members cannot send messages unless it is in reply. I've been a member for a while, just recently started posting on boards.

Anyway, if you know names you can find lots just by googling....... try googling your own names, nicknames, email addresses.... you may be surprised

There are enough concerned members on all boards who would recognise a breach of privacy and RR it themselves.

The 'report' function is often very necessary. - there are some very nasty people on GR, in addition to those who have no concept of privacy with regard to living people.

However, the person who reported Theresa's thread should be banned from the site - not merely suspended

I agree with Ken. All members must have the right to report something offensive.

Why should someone have to pay to remove something that shouldn't have been there in the first place?

Scozzie, anyone who sees personal or offensive messages needs to be able to get them removed immediately, not to rely on a paying member to do it for them.

I think anyone can see GR messages, you don't have to bve a member. Only paying members can post and send messages, non paying members can only reply to mesages sent to them.

As far as I know when a message is RRed it is put in a holding pen and restored or deleted when GR get round to it. GR do seem to be a bit random when it comes to informing those affected.

Anyone making frequent frivolous RRs is obviously wasting GR's resources and it is in GR's interest to reduce such RRs as much as possible.

Kenze, if my friend can't do anything, she would email me and I'd do it for her... then I'd send an email to GR explaining why... I'll ask her to try to post again, see what happens. She's staying with me until Friday.

Non paying members cannot send contact messages, so why (not sure about this) can they read/post/RR the boards?

Instead of being totally removed, anything RR'd should be put in a "holding pen" until reviewed. The author and RR should BOTH be contacted. If there is nothing wrong with the post it MUST be put back.

The Phantom RR has to be stopped. Whoever it is has no right to remove posts just because he/she disagrees with someone's opinion or doesn't like the subject.

Nasty ones have to be removed, but what has been going on is just ridiculous.

Scozzie, if your friend sees something nasty about her or her family on the boards, she needs to be able to get it removed immediately.

GR needs to be seen to be doing something about frivolous RRing though.
