Julia, no I don't know what thread you are talking about. If it was on General Chat then I am unlikely to have read it.

I was only replying to this thread which I thought was about a general problem.

I would be quite happy if there were two levels of reporting, one where the post is removed immediately and one where it stays but is under review until GR processes it.

I think GR should maintain a record of post reporting to stop frivolous reports but I'm not sure if they have the facility for that at present.

Well KenSE, did you actually read my thread. It said amongst other things, that no-ones personal details were mentioned.

You only know that the other person is agreeing with whatever you say!


I'm very careful about who I call friends ..... but 8 years experience on the internet has shown me that many people are NOT who they portray!


At the very least, we lose some inhibitions about what we say because we are in the privacy of our own homes (usually), and the other person cannot see us.


so it is easy to be nasty or mean ....... and then later, if pulled up about it, say "I didn't mean it, I had a smile on my face".

I've seen posters harassing others, on GR ...... and especially on old Chat


Gawd .......... I'd hate to meet some of them in real life, if they really are like what they demonstrated on here! I hasten to add that there is no-one at the moment who makes me feel like this. I did say OLD Chat, meaning around 3 or 4 years ago!



I may be very much more cynical, or less naive, than you .......... but I would never say that every person I've met on GR is who they really are.

genes should monitor their posts,because if the dont they are going to lose a lot of members,people no longer want to put up with the crap on this site( if anyone whats to RRme please feel free to do so).
and ive got to say that in most threads personal details are not mentioned.but everyone seems to know who the thread is about(why is that?)and as for friends,i for one do not know anyone on this site personally,ive never met anyone who posts on genes,but the people who i consider to be my friends are the like minded people,people who have the same morals as me,and people who hate being taken for mugs.x :-D :-D

So when you use your MILs fake account to consistantly report posts and don't pay a penny for the privilege of disrupting the boards ..that's ok?

I agree with patchem, and if it's personal details involved then they need to be removed immediately not when support can get round to it.

In the 7yrs that ive been on these boards,ive never RR a thread and until yesterday have never had one of my threads reported.
i hope when GR decide what they are going to do about my thread,that they explain why it was reported and why they decided to review it...will look farward to an explanation.x :-)

Patchem, Just for the record, for what it is worth, I did not discuss anybody's private details, nor did I blaspheme, and finally, I did not mention anyone by name. All these facts are the golden rules when posting on the boards, and are also in GR's T& C.
So, please tell me if you can, just what was my post RR'd for. The other person who was also RR'd, talked only about her own illnesses.
Now, I have nothing to hide, but the person that pressed the button surely has.

I agree to a degree Patchem...and in that instance maybe they should be able to email support rather than have a post immediately unreadable to paying members when it's RR'd.x

If someone is a non-paying member but finds, when doing a google search, that their private details are being openly discussed on the boards, then surely they have a right to ask for action to be taken?
The boards are open to all to read.
As genes does not monitor itself, what else can someone do?

There has to be an answer to all this, but I, like everyone else, do not know what it is.
It causes everyone upset. Then that upset turns to suspicion.

Stray is right though it would lead to hounding, even if the reasons for asking for the removal of the thread/post were justified...the poster's friends would not let it pass.

Sorry Rose, got it the wrong way round, and I missed out the words " in reverse". But I know what I meant.
If people are not paying subs., why should they have a say on the boards.
Not very Democratic to me.

Julia it was "No taxation without representation" which is rather different ;-)

That is exactly what the Boston Tea Party was all about. No representation without taxation. So, if they do not pay any subs, they have no right to RR.

i definitly agree non paying members should not be able to RR,

they wana say n censor whats on the boards they should pay for the privalige lol x

I would also suggest that non paying members are not permitted to RR posts.

I'd be quite happy to hold my hands up to any RR i've submitted. Though they are few and fair between because as a rule I'm in favour of letting folk have their say whether I agree with them or not.....
