At the risk of being 'struck down', I like the way Rootschat is moderated. If a person violates the Ts and Cs, the offending material is deleted by a moderator and the explanation as to why is printed in red. The explanation is grammatically correct and polite so no-one could take offence at it. It shows that 'personal' touch which is so much appreciated by the members.

Proper board moderating works well in all other forum sites that I visit; to name just two:
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php
I would urge Bright Solid to look at other forum sites to see the functioning of proper moderating.

I have just opened an email received at 6:00 am my time (ca 2:00 pm UK) that says they will restore "Careful, Folks"
.................. I did have to send them the name and board of the thread
so I just copied the title and url that I had included in the first email I sent on Tuesday :-D
No mention of any of the other suggestions in my email of yesterday.

It has also been pointed out to me that Phil is "development" and this problem is not a problem of development
The suggestion was made that he might not be allowed to respond to me or us.
Does seem a vaild suggestion.
Unfortunately, I regard Phil as the only person who does not automatically serve up platitudes instead of solutions.

Well, if that is the case, then the one addressed to Estelle should not have been whooshed ;-)
And even more reason for http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/suggestions/thread/1289123?d=asc not to have been locked :-|
Hopefully upon Phil's return, he will respond in some positive way. I fail to understand why he would not be able to respond seeing that he has done many times, helpfully, since he first appeared in public here.
I look forward to seeing "Careful, Folks" again.

Perhaps they can only answer one question at a time :-D
I asked if they could tell me about my other reported posts that " I know about"?? Not a dickie bird
Just a standard email plus they want us to "dob in" any offenders
"If you believe that other inappropriate postings remain on the site, please let us know by clicking on the 'report' link which you'll see above each posting."
What are we school kids?? .....Oh I had'nt noticed the "report" link before :-D :-D
The staff must be too busy twittering to send a properly answered email and not these standard ones that are explaining to experianced members ,how the site works

- I am sure I read genes reunited staff stating that detailed replies would be sent to queries.

I was not asking for details Joy...just which ones?
When you post as much as we do, how are we meant to know if someone reports a post? I only knew about the last one because I was still up at "silly o'clock" and it was the only message from GR I can ever remember recieving since they started this new system.
If being reported for having a look thread with 1200 posts in 3 months is another crime...I shall spend this evening reporting all that I find :-D
They did say if I see any inappropriate postings I should click the "report" link :-D :-D

Surely there is someone in a position of authority at GR that could reply to the threads.
The longer this drags on is not good for GR. It is just showing less and less respect for the members which must be at a record low at the moment.
This site only works because of its members. Especially those that help on the boards, who use their paid subs to other sites, to help others with their research. If these members goes then heaven help this site.
Come on GR there must be someone who can try and sort out this mess.

Why are you all addressing these issues to Phil Moir? They are nothing to do with him.....! Phil is a software developer.
It is a GR Management / Operational Issue.....!
I was in touch with the support team and the matter is resolved and closed as far as I am concerned.
So, apart from Jax, who else on here is awaiting closure?

To the previous poster: - there was a thread addressed to Estelle that was whooshed and another that was locked, the latter I then requested be merged with this (Phil has merged threads before).
There is Jude, and others, I understand.

several people are still awaiting closure!
I have been told that Careful, Folks will be re-instated
no sign of it yet, that I can see.
Posts were whooshed last night .............. some were re-instated very quickly. Two that were RR'd actually deserved it!
I received a pm this morning from someone saying that so-and-so's thread had gone ............ and did I know why?? Not sure why they thought I would know!
The problem may be solved for you ........... it certainly isn't solved to the satisfaction of others.
And, yes, I do know that Phil is a developer .......... but he is also the only person on GR who has consistently responded to posts, and given reasonable answers, not just platitudes. He's also the only one who has said "I will try to find out".
I do not consider the post by Estelle earlier on this thread to have been a reasonable response to the furor that was caused over Monday night.

I have been in touch with 2 different members of the support team, and do not regard the issue as closed. Neither response answered my questions, too much was too vague. Someone threatened jax with permanent expulsion, how do I know that the same punishment does not await me?

My Estelle thread was whooshed - no explanation as to why. I am not particularly concerned as the issues raised were the same as on this thread. I was just trying to obtain a response from someone at GR.
Phil has been extremely co-operative with members over the last few months so I think it's understandable that we feel we can relate to him.
Because of the lack of clarity over all the on-going issues, I do wonder if there is an amount of confusion going on between the 'powers that be'. It seems as though the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing!

Does it really matter who the thread is addressed to at GR . There are only a couple of members of the GR Team known on the boards.
Surely someone has been reading the many threads on this subject and could pass the details over to the right section to deal with this.
Well I am going to answer my own question as one thread was closed and another removed so yes they are reading them.
Perhaps GR think that burying their head in the sand will make this go away.

Surely GR must realise by now that we need prpoer closure.
This has been allowed to go on for far too long.
The Mystery R&rers have, it seems succeeded in driving a wedge between GR and its paying members to the extent that we need GR to react it a psitive way to satisfy us there will be no repetition.
I am pretty sure this was all an over reaction on the part of GR, making GR the unwitting victims here as well, but the longer GR take to respond effectively .............

......... and I'm betting that really will NOT be a satisfactory solution to this whole situation.
GR does not seem to have one concerted approach to member problems .......... and use either standard form letters or ad hoc responses.
I know I only pay £9.95 a year, part of the bonus of being a long term member.
I did have a bad experience with GR when attempting to renew last June, which left a bad taste in my mouth
The last several months have been horrendous .................
................. and we can only guess at the number of free members who were unable to open or work on their trees during that period. Paying members reported the problem, but it must have also affected non-paying ones.
We can therefore only guess at the number of members, paying and non-paying, who have walked away from this site.
The final straw for me has been this last week since the fiasco on Monday night ...................... a fiasco that has not entirely surprised me as the type of response that we have had are only repetitions of what both FR and GR have done in the past.
The ONLY reason I pay my £9.95 per year is to help other members through the Community Boards.
I have a small tree on here, but have not even looked at it in months, if not years, and I have used the records having had access to other sites since before GR had them, and finding no need to change my habits..
There is definitely a reduction in the number of people asking for help .......... some sessions are downright boring because there is nothing to do.
But i am now getting very tired of paying out the money, having GR take credit for all the volunteer help .... even though they have recently started acknowledging that it is volunteer help from members that keeps the Boards going ................... and having to work through site problems, removal of threads, and non-responses from GR.
It really still seems that the ONLY way to get an immediate response from GR is to go over to FB, post the question, get some version of answer ............ and then have the thread removed because it is too repetitious.
