I think this is a question for Phil, ? but I don't think it's as simple as logging in twice from different computers.



I'm not techy enough to know what goes on under the bonnet, [Ruth and her Dad are in different countries ].

I wonder if it to do with the fact that GR's servers object if they see logins coming from different IP addresses such as one from you and one from your daughter's?

I am logged in and working on two different PC's at home without problems as I am writing this but they are connected via a common router so GR will only detect one IP.

However, if you are logged in from different locations then GR will detect more than one IP.

Perhaps that is the explanation.

Whenever I go to my daughters I cant log in as me from her computer if I haven.t logged off at home ?

Whenever I need to have two different pages of Genes open at the same time I have one on my desktop and one on my laptop.
As far as I can tell there is no block whatsoever.

If you are both you, logged in as you, then you can work together on different computers surely?
I tend to remain permanently logged in at home, and am sure I have accessed from elsewhere.
I am not at work today so cannot test this, sorry.

Estelle , but only one person can be logged in at a time, that.s not actually working together ?
If one person forgets to log out , then the other is effectively locked out .

As guest/editor you should both be able to view the same tree in real time ?

Thanks grannyfranny, I was going to suggest the same thing. You can quite simply give your father your log in details. He could then sign in as you and add to the tree.

Well of course you could 'share' an email account and log in, then you could both work on the same tree if you wished.

It's optional! You don't like it, don't use it. Some people do like to have the facility.

Have you tried Tribal Pages? Its free and you can share editting if you wish. It's worth a look as there are various privacy options.

I think you can do this on Ancestry by inviting a guest who can contribute and make notes on a project tree.

Hi, just a suggestion, I joined this site because me and my dad were trying to find a way of researching and building our family tree together from different countries, I was very disappointed to find out this wasn't possible! Can you make a way that rather than just letting someone see your tree, you can also let them edit it? Isn't that the point of family trees, that they're not only yours but your whole family's? Thanks
