Graham

No-one HAS to answer any emails or pms if they don't want to.

but the major factor comes down to the following factors:-

1. GR has allegedly got at least 11 million members, that is cumulative since the beginning in 2002.

I reckon that we'd be lucky if 100,000 were still "active".

2. People lose interest in GR, become very sick or die ......... but their tree remains on GR

Maybe they couldn't be bothered removing the tree, or the family dod not know about this site, or don't know the password.

Gr does not "get rid of" members ....... you have to remove your tree, and ask not to be a member any more.

3. Some people only check in on GR very occasionally, and pay no attention to any emails they get at their home email address from GR. I once read a posting from one guy who said he checked back every 2 years.

4. People get new home email addresses, but forget to send the new address to GR .................. have you remembered to contact every site when you've changed your home email address"

Because of that, the notifying email that GR sends out to let someone know that there is a pm waiting will float around in the ether for ever.

5. People just do not want to answer.

This question crops up very regularly, at least once a week ...... and the only answer is that there is no answer.

You just have to take it, and accept that there are people who will not respond.
