I shall regret asking this question
How do you know that for most members it works ok for the marjority of the time ?
Think you will find that many members are having the problems but do not want to moan about them. Have you done a survey on the problems ? I think not.

Quoting a post on 30 November "Yes, there are capacity problems with the GR site, but lets face it, for most members it works ok for the majority of the time." - we do not know that for a fact.

I agree that there is a massive difference in the power of computers then and now
The first computer I ever used was in 1963 ............ it covered one full wall, from floor to ceiling and side wall to side wall, and took hours to do its "work".
HOWEVER, long experience with computers does allow one to know what one should be able to get from those computers at whatever period of time.
As a long-time end-user of computers, I KNOW what I should be getting
....... and GR is not delivering.
I don't think that there is any way round that fact.

The expression " teaching grandmother to suck eggs" springs to mind.
Agree with everything that Sylvia has said. Unless GR pull out their finger then I will probably not bother to renew my membership. I also only use this site to help out others while I have membership of Ancestry and FMP.

I guess one of us will have to post AGAIN on Facebook
as that seems to be the only place where a member of GR is willing to respond
This whole site, not just this Suggestions Board, now seems to be completely ignored
They've even stopped apologising, let alone giving updates on what is going on.
I'm really, really disappointed in GR now
I thought it was starting so well after all the changes earlier this year .............. the setting up of the Suggestion Board, the promise that GR staff would be constantly watching, and responding
didn't take long did it?!
ah well
I shall most probably not be renewing next year! After all, I only spend time on here to help others. I never use any of the records, and only a small fraction of my tree is on here.
so it's no skin off my nose if I leave the site .................... but, if I may be allowed to say, it will be a much bigger loss for GR than to me.

Different sort of computers in 1970, in fact less powerful than a Sinclair ZX or a pocket calculator.....!
The PC wasn't introduced until 1981 and the internet wasn't widely available to the public until 1991, so a different ball game altogether today.
Yes, there are capacity problems with the GR site, but lets face it, for most members it works ok for the majority of the time.

It would certainly help if the GR team tried to communicate with the members.
What problems with this site are they actually working on and which have been given priority ?
Which of the many suggestions are they going to take on board ?

What about a word with Trades Descriptions. It´s clear that the site isn´t suitable for the purpose & people are being charged large amounts of money under false pretences.

Like you, I have been involved with using computers since about 1970/71 ............ and may not know HOW they work, but I sure do know WHEN sites are not working correctly!
It really is getting beyond the bounds of any belief ......... how many problems there are on this site, how no-one seems able to correct them, and how patient the members are.
Does fmp have as many problems?
If not, why not .... when they are part of the same company
GR has become a joke since the take over by BrightSolid was completed last year .................. and cynical old me wonders if this is all part of a scheme to get rid of GR
There was a long delay between the time that BS "bought" the FR/GR family and the time when they actually took control .......... caused by the fact that the British Competition board (not sure of its exact name) had to investigate to ensure that a take-over that put 3 of the 4 largest genealogy sites in the hands of one company would not result in the loss of one or more of those companies.
Seems to me that GR is on the losing end of the stick right now!
Wonder if it is possible to appeal last year's decision to allow the take-over???
I know I am only a Standard member, and am not losing anywhere near as much money as those poor souls who have paid for Gold and Platinum ...................... but every member has a right to complain when they are not getting service for which they have paid.
How many of the millions of free members have been unable to work on their trees, and thinking it is THEIR computer that is at fault?
