perhaps it time to switch to Ancestry ???

As someone fairly new ot this, I must say the GR site is something out of the past (no pun intended)

Old fashioned, buggy (very), not up to the standards of ancestry

unfortunately i paid for 12 months on gr ???

It really is quite amateur though, not what i expected.

And as at 9.42 today:
far too slow. I do other things whilst waiting ...


I shall give the site a break for a few days.

THREE times just now when trying to open My Threads

Actually I have to retract my earlier post. It is alright when I start GR and post message straight away, but if I have GR open for a while and then post the cursor doesn't move with backspace and arrows.

One improvement I have noticed today is that the cursor now moves when I use the backspace button (or indeed any of the arrow buttons).

I don't know if others had that problem, but previously if I wanted to backspace I either had to use the mouse or count the number of places backspaced because the cursor didn't move.

Board to board / messages / my threads:

Today's happenings ........................

Get onto GR ........fast

Open Announcements and Suggestions Boards, and threads therein ......... fast

Post a message on a thread on Suggestions ............. takes ca 40-50 seconds, but does eventually post


Open My Threads .......... get Error message


Leave GR, and re-enter ................

My Threads opens in ca 20 seconds. just as I'm beginning to think I'm going to get another Error message

It might help if there was some way to remove a thread from My Thread without having to go back to the original thread and delete the comment


There are many threads where I have made a comment, but have not returned ............ these threads are all still in existence. Removing my comment is a possibility ..... but may well not enhance the thread for anyone else who may find it in future. It just makes the thread disjointed.

The process may abort because it finds it hasn't got sufficient resources to hold and manipulate the threads. That could happen at the start of the process.

BUT the error message appears quite quickly. It is as if the process is just not working.

I believe Ken is correct. The request to process that particular set of data is taking too long and is timing out.

It is a generic problem with the site, not just limited to specific operations, but happens when the volume of data that needs to be processed is large so it could be sorting through your names summary, messages, board postings, my threads, moving from page to page, etc etc, in fact anything that has large numbers of records will fail at some point.

GR have attempted to address this recently, with limited success but it is still not entirely satisfactory and more work is required.
