i was a genes member for several years before i relised that there was boards and have found them a great help never go on chat except I NEED A HUG which

is on watched threads it would be to employ people to look after this board i am sure thy can afford it and take some one offthe dole

come on genes spend a bit of monet and look after us :-( :-( :-(

Do pay attention Genes, somebody had already started a Downton Abbey thread before you added yours .

Why not just join in with the chat that's already there ?

I'm wondering what percentage of the members of GR use the General Chat Board? I, for one, never go to it. I use the site for genealogy research and to help others with look-ups but never to chat.

However well meant, in my oppinion, business and pleasure do not mix.
It may be okay up to a point, but when a problem arises, thats when it becomes difficult.
Sort the problems out, never mind mixing with the general public on a social basis.

I think seeing a GR presence responding to postings on this board would have far more of an effect in making members believe that we are considered important, than starting Chat threads on other sundry boards.


It's not as if the members on the site need to be encouraged to chat!


In fact, there have been at least 2 Downton chat threads in the past that were seemingly pretty successful, going by the number of postings shown!



................ and I would absolutely HATE to see GR-sponsored chat threads on Find Ancestors, Geneaology Chat or Find Living Ancestors!




It would mean far more if there was as immediate a response as possible to suggestions made on this board ...... that GR set up for suggestions to improving the site, with a promise that there would be feed back.

By as immediate a response as possible ........ I mean within 12 hours during the week. Hopefully, GR will some time afford weekend staff, and there could be response within 24 hours then, not the 48 to 72 hours currently seen.

It should be GR responding to the people making complaints on here ............ not people like myself having to do all the initial work, just as we used to do on other boards before the most recent changes .............. and GR popping once a week or every 2 weeks to check, and respond to the complainants.

Thanks for the suggestion Island. I can't promise we'll answer everything as we do have other work that needs to be done. However, we will certainly try and make more of an appearance.

Hello Island,

we actually have a customer support team who are there to answer any queries members have. You can also report all bugs to them too. Our support team work from Monday to Friday and do respond to all emails within 24 hours. Any bugs that are reported are checked and then logged in our system and passed to Phil and his team to investigate.

If you send them a suggestion these are also logged and passed to the relevant team.

As I explained, we do read everything on here, but if you want a personal reply then I do suggest you contact our support team who are very helpful.

Hi everyone, I have just added our comments to the Downton thread, but I'll add them here too.

"To those of you who have asked about the Suggestions board, whilst we don't actively post on there it doesn't mean that we're not acting on anything. Not only do we make a note of all the suggestions added, the bugs are all checked (and fixed) on a regular basis. Some things aren't just a 'quick fix' though and may take longer to be actioned. Answering every single suggestion is very time consuming though, and we're sorry we're not able to reply to everyone individually."

I went on to add that we plan to do this on other boards if it is a success. If you have any ideas of topics you'd like to discuss then please do add them here.

It is good when genes reunited staff interact with the site's members on its own site as well as in facebook etc, but please respond to all replies and please acknowledge / act upon the content of the suggestions board.

That's true.....quite a few unanswered queries on here with some members very dissatisfied with various things. If these problems were addressed, it would be really helpful.


We need Phil back.....

Hi everyone, we are trying out a new idea over on the general chat board. We've set up a stickied thread for chatting on. The topic we've started with is Downton Abbey. We thought it might be a nice idea to have a thread where you could all chat with us about different topics. It's going to be very light-hearted, but we think it could be fun.
