Maiden name in birth records.

However you should note that the mother's maiden name only appears in freebmd, ancestry, findmypast, etc AFTER mid-1911.

It is not available before that



If you are lucky enough to have relatives in Lancashire, the Lancashire bmds sometimes show mmn's maiden name as early as 1880

You could google to see if your county of interest has a bmd site, and does the same thing, or go to www.ukbmd.org.uk

If you combine the website

http://www.findmypast.co.uk/BirthsMarriagesDeaths.jsp

& using the mother's maiden name

pinpoint , then use GR with that data to access the information

Why is there not a column in the birth records, the information is available only after you click on the person in the birth records?
Surely the information has been input into a computer; therefore it can be extracted and shown in a column at the beginning of the birth records. It would save an awful lot of time not having to plough through the records looking for children born to a particular mother.
I bought a Platinum Membership thinking it would be like I have explained above and make my life easy but to my annoyance it is hopeless and it is unnecessarily time consuming.
FreeBMD have the right idea, why can't you do something similar?
