Date and place of burial

Does anyone think it would be a good idea if on the family tree page there was a place to enter date of burial and place of burial.

I think it could be done by adding one extra line. If the date of death was put on the same line as year of death as it is for year of birth and date of birth.

The date of death could be replaced with date of burial and a extra line underneath with place of burial.

We can enter births baptisms marriages and deaths, Why not burials, at the moment we have to put the burial details in the Notes.

Yes, I agree with perhaps an extra field for burial/cremation/other indication.

This could be a handy addition I think Alan :-)

Yes, it could be a usefull edition, but in reality, just how many burial details do you actually know?

Looking at my own 'full' tree which I manage on my pc using a commercial program, I estimate that less than one percent - probably more like a tenth of a percent - of names actually have burial details. If this is replicated across the GR database, then most of these fields would remain blank, which makes the expense of implementing the change far less attractive. Also, it is not just a case of finding space on the screen, the fields would also have to be added to the datasets inported and exported onto gedcom files.

But surely IGP, pre-1837 that is all you do have marking the end of someone's life.

I don't disagree, but the point I'm making is that If I were the person at GR making the decision whether or not to spend money on software enhancements, I coudn't see this as being high up the list of priorities as it would only be of benefit to a handful of members, not the majority.

Hello InspectorGreenPen I just though it might be a good idea what with the amount of information now available from the NBI 9 and places like Berkshire having a Burial index that more people would like a new facility to add the information.
I have found quite a few burials in the NBI and over 20 of my family who ended up in Berkshire from the Berkshire index.

You say these fields would remain blank but looking at some of the trees I can access on GR most have Date of Birth and Baptism, Place of Baptism. Date of Marriage and Death, Source of Information nearly all blank. Without doubt a lot of Burials would be left blank.
