sorry - I'm just an ignorant Lancashire lass - what is a Wo please.

Is it a good or a bad thing?

Are you sure it is not a managerESS at the top?

I have just returned to the board and I am dismayed at the blatant sexism that has been displayed on this thread during my absence and on Fathers Day as well.

After carefully considering what should be the appropriate course of action to take I feel that the only thing for me to do is to bring the matter to the attention of the MANagement. I intent therefore to speak to the MAN at the top at the earliest opportunity. ;-)

I leave the feminists amongst you to ponder this:

"A woman, without a man, is just a Wo." :-P

Anyone know why road signs in this country are not normally in UPPER CASE?

For the simple reason that they are easier to read in Mixed case....!

Just come down from London on the A1 after visiting son and partner in SW London.

Road Signs said

A1
THE NORTH
Stevenage
Welwyn Gdn City
Hadfield

etc, etc,

Apart from THE NORTH not one was in capitals

Why? .....for the simple reason that they are easier to read in Mixed case.

perhaps Jonesey is having an afternoon off - I would have expected a comment by now

Perhaps he agrees with us but does not like to admit it!!

Actually, I have a t-shirt which has part of that inscription on the front and the other part on the back!

I once wore it to a meeting, but the sea of blank faces was overwhelming :-D

TootyFruity Report 19 Jun 2011 16:03

Brilliant Gins :-D love it

The girls definitely got it right :-D :-D

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 19 Jun 2011 15:26

I love that Ginny - just had to pass that on to a couple of friends and the girls DID get it right

note the capitals giving emphasis!!

seriously - anyone who trains / teaches people is taught to use lower case when writing on flip charts, powerpoint etc, with upper case only used for new sentences / beginning of lines / emphasis, as it enables pupils to both read and understand the content more easily

I agree there are some special cases though

Gee

Gee Report 19 Jun 2011 15:01

Gwynn....do I have to repeat myself ;-)

Just for you Toots

An English professor wrote the words,

"A woman without her man is nothing"
on the blackboard and directed the students to punctuate it correctly.

The men wrote: "A woman, without her man, is nothing."

The women wrote: "A woman: without her, man is nothing."

Personally, I think the girls got it right ;-)

TootyFruity

TootyFruity Report 19 Jun 2011 14:19

Lol Gins

I'll peel myself off the back wall after your blast :-D

Punctuation is important too because it can change the context of what is being said.

I do find passages written in capitals difficult to read and am more likely to skip over them. :-)
