When I first signed up to Genes (almost a year ago to the day) I had less than 30 people on my tree and I knew absolutely nothing about researching family history (or computers).
I remember asking a question on the Records Board the answer I got was “Look on my other thread”, to which I responded, “I’ll do that……. the moment I find out what a thread is”.
Today I have 1671 people on my tree, all of them (with the exception of a handful) I have proof for in the form of birth, marriage and death certs and census returns. I am in touch with cousins (first and twenty-seven times removed) all over the place, from Australia and New Zealand, Canada and the United States to Hebburn in County Durham.
I’ve lost count of the many friends I’ve made……and my family have all lost the extra weight they were carrying (due to the fact that I’m often too busy with Dead Rellies to cook dinner).
I’ve even got to the stage where I’m competent enough to offer help to other people (well some of the time).
None of this would have been possible without the help, support and endless patience of the members on Genes, especially at the very beginning. Without people like Janice Jagger, Mhairi Queen of Scots, Old Crone, Reg, Clive Buckle and many, many more, I’d probably given up by now.
And as for the support, friendship, kindness and belly laughs that the people on the ‘Generals Board’ have given me over the months………..well that would require at least another 18 paragraphs……….
All in all, I’d say it was the best £9.50 I have ever spent.
THANK YOU ALL
