Hi Sheena
Thank you very much for all the work you have done on my behalf.Much of what you got I already knew.
I did find a George Martin with his wife Amelia in the 1871 census but had doubts as he was said to be a master miller but my gt grandfather has always been a coach driver and proprietor.I must admit I hadn't found the marriage in Lambeth which you found and as he was in Hammersmith in 1861(as a driver) I guess it could be the correct one.I knew about him marrying Mary Alice Kinder and have the certificate but the marriage to my gt grandmother Jane Ann is the one I would dearly like to have.I have been unable to find the birth certificate for their 1st son George who is shown in the 1881 census born in Manchester . George snr certainly must have had a taste for the younger lady as all his wives were much ,much younger than he was.
I do have my gt grandfather's birth certificate (Alfred Martin b1882) who is shown in the 1891 and 1901 census for Altrincham and it shows his mother as Jane Ann Foottit.
I will check on the marriage to Amelia and also to see if I can find her death before his marriage to Mary Alice Kinder.
Once again thank you for all the help Sheena.

Thank you also to Kas and Heather for your contributions
