I've recently traced my long lost cousin Tracy (and her brother and sister Tommy and Elaine, also my cousins) through Genes Reunited. Met them for the first time after so many years at the weekend and it was great. Don't get me wrong, I had a really good upbringing with my mum and stepdad, however there was always a little part of me who wanted to find out about the roots on my dad's side of the family. It's as though parts of my life are being 'filled in.' I got in touch with my dad two years ago after many years apart. We get on quite well and obviously, we are quite similar in some ways however different in others. It went ok and although we get on well, we don't really have a father-son relationship. That doesn't bother me at all and I'm sure it doesn't bother my dad either. Again, the main thing is that we are back in touch and get on well with one another. I came across obstacles when trying to trace people ... my advice to people would be not to give up!! |
