Can't remember what messages I have posted with regard to Rosalind Barham who was adopted into my mother's family as a baby in 1909. However the mystery of her origin has been almost completely resolved. She was born to Clara Cosens, a domestic servant, at a very impressive address in Hove, which I can only assume to be her place of employment. Either her employers were very tolerant (which I doubt), or the birth took place without their knowledge. Clara's address three weeks later was given on the birth certificate as 2 Upper Shoreham Road, Kingston-by-Sea which turns out to be a euphemism for the Steyning Union Workhouse whence she had been banished.
