Finally managed to trace Kerswell family back to c1770. It was difficult because my2xg grandparents carried on having children well into their fifties. They died when the yongest two were very small and one lived with his elder brother whilst the other went to live with his maternal grandmother until he came of age. Thanks to anyone who has helped me through this minefield, especially Rob. Now on to the other branches of the family...ho...hum...
