Although I'd always had contact with my mother's family, we only had details of Dad's mother's family - his father's side was somewhat of a mystery, and as his Mum died when he was 7, his early life was a bit hazy, with none of the detail filled in. Thanks to the huge amount of help from the members of this site, especially Christine Peake, I now have a birth certificate for my father which he was never able to trace, as well as his mother's death certificate. She died when he was a child, supposedly in the 1918 flu epidemic, but the truth was a lot sadder than that - I'm glad that those particular details weren't available to him, but so grateful to the kind people on this site for filling in some of the gaps. Christine made some great observations and supplied me with loads of info., without which I might have given up. But having seen what's possible, I'm 'on a mission' - like so many others of you. So - only ALL the rest of the bits of the jigsaw to find, now! Bx |
