One of the best things is finding a family link and then being able to swap trees and sometimes even photos. I've always wondered what my great grandfather looked like - now I know! He was killed in WW1 and only one of his many children had kept a photo of him. One of his g grandchildren on here was able to send me the photo and I found out I have my g grandad's nose! Another distant relative on GR sent me a scan of a daguerrotype (?) of my gg grandparents. Never thought in a million years that there would be a pic of them! How wonderful to see family resemblances!
