I first found this site in 2002 and joined as a full member May 2003, over the years I have had many contacts which has helped me with my research into my family history, for a long time I stayed on the Records board doing look ups for Cambridgeshire, as I live in that part of the Country, I have since made many good friends all around the country via the general board who sadly are now departed, this site in my experience is or was quite unique from any other genealogy site. Although there have been quite a few problems recently resulting in the boards being closed for a couple of days, don't let this put off any newcomers wishing to join GR, but tread carefully in who you put your trust in if you venture off Tips or Records boards.
