My father died when I was six years old and my mother never spoke of him or his family before she too died. My daughter posted some of our family names on Genes and within 24 hours we received a message from my cousin, the daughter of my Dad's brother. She told me that my Dad had a sister, Barbara, who was still alive and living in Plymouth and so I wrote to her, asking if indeed she was my Aunt. After a tearful telephone call we travelled to Plymouth and I met this wonderful lady who welcomed me into her home and showed me a photograph of MY Dad! What an emotional moment that was. Now I have many photographs, letters he wrote during the war and so much more. I now know where I came from and know who my Dad really was, and better yet, I have seven living cousins and three aunts, I have a family! Thanks to Genes. Please don't deprive others of this opportunity. |
