I am so, so, happy anyone who remembers reading Louisa's Story and about her murder will remember I was trying to find George her son, my father's brother, well this another chapter to my search; I THEN TRIED TO OBTAIN COPIES OF LOUISA’S INQUEST, THE FUNNY THING WAS AS I WAS TOLD BY BERKSHIRE RECORDS OFFICE MOST INQUEST REPORTS BEFORE 1930 HAD BEEN DESTROYED AND THIS ONE WAS THE ONLY ONE REMAINING. I OBTAINED COPIES, AND ALSO NEWSPAPER REPORTS OF THE TIME, RECORDING THAT THERE HAD BEEN TWO INQUESTS, EVIDENCE FROM THE POLICE AND WITNESS REPORTS, AND WITNESS STATEMENTS. I LATER FOUND THAT SHE HAD 2 CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 4)... WILLIAM, MY FATHER BEING THE YOUNGEST, AND GEORGE HIS BROTHER 2 YEARS OLDER. (I had never heard of George until reading the inquest report.) I FOUND A MAN THE CORRECT NAME WHO HAD BEEN BORN IN SOUTHWARK IN 1914 HAD DIED IN TRURO IN 1992. I have now received the death certificate for George William Gates, I find he was a retired engineer, his date of death was May 1992, he died at The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro and his death was registered by his Grandson Mark Allen who at the time was living in South Street, Redruth. Wouldn’t my dad have been overjoyed to have found him or any of these details about his? missing brother. I am now trying to find Mark Allen as I believe we would be 1st Cousins. I have been searching for a year, left messages on various website and with Friends Reunited, still cannot find Mark. At last a break through, someone has contacted me and told me that George Married a Doris Nicholls in 1939 and that they had a daughter Yvonne, don’t know if this info is Correct will try to send for Marriage Cert for George and Doris. 2/06/2006 still waiting for Marriage Cert but have now been sent an address for Yvonne, will try to make contact. Since this all started I have now found relatives in the USA and Family History Of Louisa’s Savage (Gates) ancestors back to 1557 my search still continues…………. Have now found reference to marriage for George Gates to Doris A daughter Yvonne to George and Doris. A marriage for Yvonne Gates to Samuel R Allen. A son Mark Allen to Yvonne and Samuel . All I need now is to find Mark or an address for Yvonne, I have been given an address to try for Yvonne, it's in Cornwall and I will write to-day 5th June 06. 14th June a letter has come from Yvonne I am overjoyed, she tells a bit about her dad and his life, mentioning that he said he had a brother and a step-mother and that he had a bad accident as a child and lost part of the front of his leg and knee, the leg was in traction for a long time and failed to grow he spent years in the converlescent home and the one leg was shorter than the other, Yvonne went on to say that George thought that there was no future for him in London and he made his way down to Cornwall. George could do most things he rode a bike with one pedal and played cricket and loved playing and watching snooker. Yvonne also has a brother Roger he is Ten years younger (I wonder if she has told him about my letter). Mark is living in Clevelays (just outside Blackpool) when he was Twelve he went to Blackpool to see The Tower Organ and now play's it part-time, he is also a driving instructor. Yvonne has given me Mark's address, I will drop him a line. I cannot believe how all this has been found with the help of the Kind People on this site, so thanks to all who have answered my questions and helped me over the years. Thank You All So Much. Carol |
