I had been trying to find my Grandfathers details. He had been killed in France in 1917 & all I knew was he was called Thomas Alexander McFarlane & he was 26 years old. I couldn't find him anywhere-he wasn't on the 1901 census. Then a chap with relations the same name said a person with the name McFarline was registered as Thomas Alexander. When I looked at the birth records for his year there wasn't anyone of that name. It was my Grandfather with his name spelt wrong! I ended up being related to the person who helped me! I also posted a notice to ask if anyone knew anything about him-got a message from a chap interested in military issues with details of his date of death, his regiment, his rank & where he is buried! I was overcome with emotion & gratitude. My brother & I are going to visit the grave either this year or next. I'm so grateful! |
