My father, who died in 1976, left home to join the Army in 1940 and never went back. He never told us much about his family. I eventually found their entry in the 1901 Census and added the members here. I was then contacted by someone wanting to know why I had listed his grandmother - she was my father's elder sister. I now know my father had seven sisters and three brothers, and am starting to get in touch with over 40 first cousins I never knew I had, some of whom live quite close to me. Only a few weeks ago I saw pictures of my paternal grandparents for the first time!
