I am Trying to find out about my Great Grandfather Solomon Barber, I thought that he was born in 1881middleton) to Amos Obadiah Barber(b 1848 Bury) and Mary Ann, nee Lamb. I have recently been given information sugesting that Solomon Born to Amos and Mary, moved to Canada, and was born much earlier. He was using the name Samuel in Canada. I am unable to get to a records office for several weeks, and am finding it hard to decipher Census notes. They were Gypsies and had a Large family. The names were unusual, Obadiah, Neptune, Britannia and Adolphus. This has made it difficult. They settled in Stowmarket. Solomon then went on to marry a Keeley(or lived with her) and they had 3 or 4 Children. They lived on Wingfield Common, and Solomon was a general dealer. There was Joe, who I think may have also married a Keeley and took her Surname, Olive who married Ike Rumsey, and Horace James my Grandfather who was Born in 1922. There may have been a George. I have ordered Horace James's Birth Cert. I am hoping to get to the record office myself at some point but i now live in the west Midlands. I hope to find someone who knew the family, and perhaps could tell me about my G-Grandad? He had a mysterious Brother living with him in the 1930's, called 'Darkie' Barber. Is there anywhere else I should be looking, I have tried some Travellers sites with not much luck, I have found a lovely lady in Canada who gave me info about Samuel aka Solomon moving there. Thanks, Kelly
