Over a year ago I hit a brick wall with my searches for ancestors and put my family tree, numbering nearly 800 of my extended family, on one side. Since another relative had the full tree here I hadn't bothered to upload mine. Last Monday, having come to the site to renew my subscription, I uploaded my tree, made a couple of searches and contacted some new people. Within an hour I had a reply giving me 2 extra generations of my father's family in a tree with 1400 entries. On Tuesday I had a reply from my mother's grandfather's great granddaughter giving me 2 more generations of her family and another 100 names. On a hunch of a possible spelling change to the family name I sent out another query. On Wednesday I had a reply giving me 2 more generations and another 600 names. I was able to put both my contacts in touch so that they could share information. Since then I've been sent research from a third contact that could add another 2 generations. I've also been contacted by 2 others about branches of my family tree I'm not familiar with and will need to follow up later. Quite a good week It's now a month later and I have another complete branch of my mother's family going back to the 1600's and a few good leads on another - all from searches or contacts here. One member continued to search for useful information for me even after we'd established we weren't related. It's going to take weeks to process all the information, but by putting even distant relatives into my tree I've had a lot of useful contacts. |
