Exactly a year ago I was contacted completely out of the blue through Genes Reunited by my 1st cousin, also Alison (she is now known as Alison the Elder and I am Alison the Younger) who I had lost contact with. We have now met up and got on like a house on fire despite not having seen each other for 40 years, since when we both young children. That one contact set me off on researching my tree - I had not even thought of doing it before then. Thanks to Genes Reunited I have learnt so much about my new hobby, have almost 2000 individuals on my database including direct ancestors dating back to 1650 (and I have not yet researched my husband's family....) and have found 30 distant relatives who I have made contact with via the website. I am still absolutely shocked by my success and am happy to sing the website's praises. Long may it last! Alison |
