Early, this year, I discovered I had a second cousin, Valerie, living in Germany. We shared the same great grandparents and quickly got to sharing information with each other. Valerie was desperate to find out information about her grandfather Ernest Jesse Howard, who was killed in WW1. She was surprised to find that my dad remembered ' Uncle Ernie' and was also able to share memories of him, and of Valerie's father who came to live with my dad's family, following the loss of his mother in the Great Flu Pandemic of 1918. Just recently, we stumbled accross some old papers and mementos, which my dad kept. Imagine my surprise when I found the original marriage certificate of Valerie's grandparents in 1909. She is absolutely thrilled and we will be reuniting her with it soon! Janice |
