Researching Sussex & Surrey Covey Family Tree After being reunited with my sister at her son's wedding in April 2005 after more than 20 years, we decided to try and start a family tree to pass on to our children and my grandchildren (their mother had started her side 3 years ago). I told my sister I would have a quick look on the Net and BINGO! On my daughter-in-law's advice I signed up for GRU and have not looked back. I had already 'found' the names of my great grandparents and was pretty pleased with that but when I loaded my tree (a twig as it turned out) on GRU I was contacted by and managed to contact a number of cousins I never knew existed (from 2nd cousins to 5th cousins!). With their help and my own research we now have a tree - mainly on my father's side - back to 1628 and containing nearly 800 names! I have used another site to research my Mother's side as she was an orphan and we did not have much to go on but, with the help of the Net and Census searches, we have now got back on her side to my great great great grandparents! (The census information also gives fascinating details of occupations and adresses at the time of the census.) I only wish my parents had been alive to see the results - they would have loved it! I have only one surviving Uncle, who is now 85, but he has given me so many stories and hints to help me on my way. He is thrilled to see his tree developing and he confirmed (reluctantly) that what I had found about one relative was true - that her 'sister' was really her mother...fascinating stuff. I would recommend anybody to this site it is so easy to use and the contact with other members is fantastic - everybody wants to help each other. My thanks GRU & all the fantastic relatives who have helped me to this result - I am still building....... |
