My father never knew who his real father was, so I thought that a quarter of my family tree would never be written. Now, thanks to all the help I have received in pointing me in the right direction from poeple on this site - I now have a name for my grandfather - For the princley sum of £8.50, the Berkshire Records office searched the Court records and found an Affiliation order for maintainance awarded to my grandmother - with the father's name and an award of 7/6 a week maintenence. Still only a name, no other information - but I do know he was a soldier and now have found a name that matches on a WW1 Medal card. So the next thing to do is to find his army record and hope this is the right man. You never know, maybe the third quarter of my family tree will be written after all. I'd also like to thank James from Scotland - who, with just a first line of an address, and two christian names - found a whole family for me in Glasgow (a gg aunt and her family) - which all clicks into place, as the children came back down to London, and mother remembers them well. This is the best site in the world - thanks again guys. Jackie |
