JOAN ALLAN What would I have done without you? You spent many hours helping me search for my birth family and you succeeded. Within three days we had several members of my family in our sights. On the fourth day my i got an email from allen. (His wife used to be married to my uncle Paul) He gave me his number. When I spoke to Debi she knew who I was. Apparently all the family knew about me and had prayed I would return home. Unfortunately mum had passed away when I was 8. Debi assured me the family will want contact. She promised to contact them the following morning. When she did everyone cried. They couldnt believe it. They had given up when my 21st birthday came and went. They rang me later that day and everything was so natural. I was home at last. I am now a complete person and have a family who love me unconditionally. I met my Nan, my mums sister and one of her brothers the day after that. On sunday Iwill be meeting more of the family and I can't wait. For people that Know me, meeting people I don't know is something I dread (fish out of water) I struggle to speak, not now!! must also say big thanks to genes/friends who helped track the family and more importantly find a special lady and friend called Joan. Good luck to all adoptees searching. If anyone needs to talk to a friendly person about this please get in touch with me or Joan at myfolks dot net. Thanks also to my adoption agency for listening and for helping to locate my file which was microfiche and for photocopying everything in it. What took me by surprise was the emotions you go through just looking at it. Being able to see mums' handwriting and the reasons behind the adoption, even the small amount of info about my dad. My dad was a DJ and tv aerial installer and things suddenly made sense. I could finally understand where my love of music came from. Not just a particular band or type like most people do but a wide ranging kind of music from all eras and kinds of music. Everything from the 50s to present day. I like any kind of music except house/techno and the like! Mum wouldn't give my dad's last name but that doesn't mean I won't be able to find him. If something is meant to happen it will but you have to prepare for all eventualities. I know I have been lucky to have this outcome and it's been worth all the emotion i've gone through. Believe it or not I still would feel the same if things had have been different. At least I would have known I tried everything to find them and make contact. Either way I have a chance to move on with my life, something I haven't been able to do for a very long time- many years in fact. I have met nearly all of my family now which includes:- Nan, Mums sister christrine & her husband Graham, Christine's son barry & his family, her daughter julie and her family, mum's brother paul and wife rowena, and brother Phil and his family. Mum's brother stephen is in adelaide with his family but are coming home at xmas.. I have even tracked down my mum's best friend Brenda and my mum's boyfriend Dave. I'm hoping to meet them soon. I went to mum's grave on sunday 31/1/05. nothing can prepare you for that. I found it really hard but it also helped meeting the family after. I have finally come home at last. I'm back where I belong. Best Wishes to everyone. |
