I am known as Christine Anne Smith or Christine St Clair-Smith, but I was born Christine Delaney, the illegitmate daughter of Phyllis Delaney (nee States) and Tom McGowan in Meerut, India in 1940. I was adopted by my natural mother's eldest sister, Elizabeth (known as Mae) and her husband Cutty Smith. My maternal grandparents were Charles and Rebecca States, of Khaur, India (pre 1947) and my paternal gradmother was Mona McGowan. I have several cousins (Ian and Robin States) who live in Perth, W.Australia and John and Susan Rayfield in Brisbane, Qld, Australia. After leaving India in 1947 my very large extended family were split, some going to Australia, some being repatriated to the UK. I lived in Australia, the UK and Pakistan, now living in London. Desperately trying to find information relating to my natural father's family who settled in South Australia, together with his mother and sister, Marigold Bowmand) with his brother Peter living in Bournemouth, UK. Any information or contacts would be gratefully appreciated. |
