Links between The Bodilys and Sir Thomas Bodley?

Frederick Report 24 Nov 2013 17:16

Three years ago, helping a friend, I began researching the 'Bodilys' and had hoped to find a link to the famous Sir Thomas Bodley, founder of the Bodleian Library in Oxford. Unfortunately, there was a zero response to this and I can only assume from my subsequent research that no such link exists. Nevertheless, through 'Hot Matches' I was able to make contact with several GR members and from the various responses, trees etc was able to produce a Bodily family tree. We would like, therefore, to thank all those members who provided information.

Furthermore, fascinated by the findings on 'Sir Thomas,' I continued the research on him and from my discoveries went on to write an online biography about this famous Oxford academic and diplomat, his father and his siblings - as well as a chapter on the Bodleian Library - which I hope would be informative and interesting to members. There is also a large section on the Tudors which helps to put Bodley's life and times into historical context.

The online biography - 'Sir Thomas Bodley: His Life & Times' can now be seen at:

Thanking you all once again.
