19th Century Memoirs!

Earlier this year, a cousin I did not know existed, put me in contact with another cousin I did not know and between them have given me access to a whole stack of information that I did not know, about my great grandfather who travelled from Norway, to Australia via Canada, then after almost 20 years in Liverpool, to Australia again where he settled with all but one of his sons. The eldest - my grandfather, came back to Liverpool! -in 1893! Until I rediscovered my great grandfather via Genes-reunited, he was unknown to his European and American descendents. We now have his memoirs - an amazing story of the struggles of a young Norwegian boy making his way in the 19th century as a young sailor. His trials and tribulations en-route. Thanks to the contacts made via Genesreunited, his life story has now been brought to our notice. Absolutely amazing. Thanks to all those involved in this endeavour. I have recently discovered that those memoirs, probably written in Australia, have now been translated into Norwegian and are residing in the museum of his home town Brevik, in Norway. :-) :-) |
