Thanks to Genes and Nicky Sedgwick I solved a 70 yearold family mystery. Not only that but was able to re-unite nearly all my Sedgwick cousins. The truth of what happened to my grandad and his family is stuff that films are made of!!! With Grandad Sedgwick walking from Leeds with two of his children, which took them two years, just to find work on an estate owned by his ex-officer. He left one boy and a girl behind with friends in Leeds and his wife was left in Newcastle with their baby at his mother in laws house. His wifes family were from Music Hall stock and Irish extract. His wife and one of her sisters would have gone on the Titanic to America( they were to be adopted by two Americans) had it not been for his wifes mother, Annie Cooney, having a premonition that something bad was going to happen, so she stopped the adoption. Luck of the Irish!!! It gets better !! His wifes father 'did a runner' we think to America possibly because of his Irish activities!! His wife would have been about 10 years old at the time of the proposed adoptions. Makes you wonder if the adoptions were a way to get two of Annie' Cooney's children to their father, Joseph Cooney, in America. We will never know!! There is much much more.
