130 years on, through 2 World Wars: England & Germ

I must share this with you - I have just come off the phone from speaking to a German cousin - renewing a family tie that has endured since before 1871 across Europe, and through two World Wars.

Before 1871 great-great-great Uncle left Germany to live in north London - where there was a large German community. We knew that someone in the family here in England was in still in touch with family in Germany up until 2007 when he passed away - so, since 1871 relatives in both countries have been in touch, visiting each other, swopping Christmas cards and letters... my grandfather visited German family in the 20s, other cousins had visited in the 50s, and even up to the 70s family were still visiting Germany.

Using Genes Reunited was instrumental in our searching as we tracked down which English cousin this was, and through some searching found our German family that he had stayed in touch with.

And now this evening I spoke on a mobile phone to a German cousin who's in a pub with our English cousins.

Nearly 130 years and still talking!
