I last saw my son Emilio when he was 3 years old in Sicily. My interest in genealogy prompted me to put the family tree on a website in the UK. During the intervening years I hunted high and low for him but to no avail, putting messages on every site that I could think of. Then, one day after 40+ years I received a message via my younger son that a person by the name of Emilio Grote had contacted him through Facebook asking if he knew anything about Gerald Cornwell (me). I sent off a message to let him know that I was his father and had tried to find him but with no success. The reason for this was because I was looking for an Emilio Cornwell but he had lived his life using his mother's previous married name and this fact had thrown me off track. After a number of email messages back and forth, he made a trip to Australia to meet up with me. Both of us were overjoyed and the meeting was an emotional affair. I am now in my 80th. year and half of that time was spent agonising over my missing boy. |
