The Manchester Thorpe Clan

Helen Report 2 Dec 2008 01:13

My mother, aged 5, immigrated to Australia with her family in 1911. Recently I realised I knew nothing of her family in England so I joined Genes Reunited. First contact, from the site, came from one of my Gran's brothers decendants. Then another contact from Grans sisters decendant. Eventually the site ushered almost ALL my mothers cousins families. Most living in the Greater Manchester area and not realising they all had genetic links. One cousin did not even know her Gran and Grandfathers names.
What an exciting and interesting journey this has been and I should also add at times, frustrating.
My husband and I made the long planned trip to the home of our ancestors, Britian, and on learning of our pending trip it was suggested we should all try and meet.
One cousin offered up his home for a wonderful party uniting the Thorpe clan.
We exchanged stories and photo's and thanks to Genes Reunited new friendships have been created and family connected hopfully forever.
